About Chang La

Chang La is a high mountain pass in the Ladakh region at an elevation of approximately 5,360 m, making it one of the highest motorable passes in the world. It is the primary route from Leh to the Pangong Tso lake. The pass is managed by the Indian Army, with a small temple (Chang La Baba Mandir) dedicated to a soldier who served here. The pass is located in the Chang La mountain range, a sub-range of the Ladakh Range, and is characterised by dramatic terrain with snow-covered peaks on all sides. Like Khardung La, it is maintained by the BRO.
