About Khardung La

Khardung La (Khardung Pass) at 5,359 m is one of the highest motorable mountain passes in the world. It is the gateway to the Nubra Valley and serves as a vital supply route to the Siachen Glacier base camp. The pass offers spectacular 360-degree views of the Karakoram and Ladakh mountain ranges. The road is maintained by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and is generally open from May to November, though it can close suddenly due to snowfall or rockslides. A small army chai (tea) stall operates near the summit, where visitors can enjoy a hot drink at over 5,000 m. The pass is an iconic milestone for adventure motorcyclists and cyclists.
