About Tso Moriri

Tso Moriri (Mountain Lake) is the largest of the high-altitude lakes entirely within India, sitting at 4,595 m in the remote Changthang Wildlife Sanctuary. Covering 120 km², the lake is a designated Ramsar Wetland of International Importance, sheltering rare birds including the bar-headed goose, black-necked crane, Brahminii duck, and great crested grebe. The surrounding landscape of rolling hills, snow-capped peaks, and vast grasslands grazed by Tibetan wild ass (kiang) and blue sheep (bharal) creates an unparalleled wilderness experience. The tiny village of Korzok on the western bank, with its ancient monastery, is the only human settlement here. Far fewer tourists visit Tso Moriri than Pangong, making it ideal for those seeking solitude.
